summer jobs

i have a new job as a kayak instructor. yesterday morning, i ate a breakfast of granola and strawberries on the dock, watching the sun rise over a still lake. we then paddled across the lake, paddled through the reeds. a raccoon checked in on us and followed us for a bit. we took the kids down the river of golden dreams and pulled in for a picnic when we got hungry. I get paid to do all that.

I actually had a conversation along those lines with one of the kid's dad. i don't make very much money, but what I do beats by far most other people's summer jobs. heck, even their day jobs.

working at the kayak school i now finish around 3h30. i enjoy having those extra 3 hours in my day to hang out (compared to ziptrek).

to top off that day, i went to the indoor park at creekside and landed a pop shove-it for the first time ever. zing!

on the road to Squamish

the sea to sky highway is one of the most spectacular in the country. these were taken on the drive from whistler to squamish.

voici une rare photo de moi. je suis allée aux chutes de Brandywine aujourd'hui et c'est assez spectaculaire. c'est a environ 10 minutes de whistler en direction de squamish. j'ai des tonnes d'autres photos mais ca va aller a une autre fois! brandywine falls photo par ElPain

whaffle ball

le whaffle ball, c'est comme le mini-golf, mais avec des balles perforées. samedi dernier, les boys m'ont initiée à ce jeu surprenant. On a acheté deux bâtons usagés au re-use it center (l'équivalent local du village des valeurs) et six balles à la quincaillerie et on en a eu pour trois heures à marcher dans le bois à essayer de trouver les trous. Ce jeu n'est pas officiel, et il n'est certainement pas sur les cartes de whistler. ça a vraiment l'air d'avoir été fait par des locaux. donc, 19 trous, en plein milieu du bois, avec tertres de départ (palettes de bois avec carré de tapis), "water hazard" (de grosses boites de conserve remplies d'eau ou carrément un ruisseau) et verts (carré de terre entouré de roches). j'ai rencontré Brett au skatepark vendredi dernier. Brett est australien, il mesure environ 2 mètres et a approximativement 3 fois plus de cheveux que moi. Il fait de la descente sur un vélo rose et du bmx au skatepark.
